I've been upgrading my various computers from FreeBSD 9 series to 10
series. Followed the generally accepted upgrade process of going from
the various 9.x installs to 10.0 before upgrading on up to the latest
10.3.

All went well until I got to the laptop. Only after upgrading 9.3 to
10.0 did I remember why I'd installed 9.3 in the first place. 10.0 and
10.2 (and maybe 10.2) don't handle the msk0 network card driver very well
at all, ie it doesn't work. Buggeration!

Fortunately all the user data was backed up. So I installed 10.3 from
scratch and was pleasantly impressed by how everything "just worked",
desktop settings, widgets still in place etc after manually setting up
the NFS mounts and rsyncing the user and config backups from the server.

So easy with the *nixs eh? 1.5 hours max to get back to the point of
leaving, but with nothing at all broken and everything up to date.

Pretty much, yeah. There's still a number of programmes I've not re-
installed yet, but they are the ones I rarely use anyway. Most are on
the main desktop two floors up in the attic and I can always just ssh -X
into them. There's 4GB more space on the HDD right now which is useful
for me. (works laptop, not mine, so I didn't want to "steal" too much of
the HDD for FreeBSD. I have to keep Win7 on it too.)
